2021 LunarFest

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with 2021 LunarFest

LunarFest is a legacy event from Vancouver 2010 Cultural Olympiad and has turned into annaul Lunar New Year Celebration in the Greater Vancouver Area. We are excited to continue sharing the festive spirit of the Lunar New Year with those from all cultures and backgrounds.

This year’s LunarFest event will be a mixture of virtual and physical activities, and with the impact of COVID-19, the importance for the world to reflect should be emphasized in everything we do going forward.

We are seeking highly passionate and like-minded individuals to join us.  If you are interested in helping or you are looking for building your resume, we have various volunteering opportunities waiting for you.

Volunteer Positions

We are looking for Chinese/English translators to work on translations of video subtitles. This position requires written proficiency with both languages and familiarity with Google Suite applications. 

Tasks:

  • Able to work remotely from home for 21 hours per week starting January 4th
  • Translate and edit video subtitles from Mandarin to English or vice versa
  • Proofread and check for grammar, spelling and punctuation accuracy

The Program Content Translators is a dual role that will translate written festival content for both the website and social media. This position requires becoming familiar with festival programs.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Flexibility of working from home starting immediately
  • Working with Social Media Manager to translate social media posts from English to Chinese or French
  • Sharing/Posting to relevant groups in the Chinese or French-speaking communities
  • Translating/Interpreting festival program descriptions from English to Chinese or French to be posted on the website
  • Proofread and check for grammar, spelling and punctuation accuracy

Required Qualifications:

  • Fluent in written Chinese or French
  • Must become familiar with festival themes and programs through orientation session and research
  • Willingness to ask questions to best understand and interpret the English written content into Chinese or French

We are looking for budding graphic artists to help design print and online advertisements for various event programs.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Flexibility of working at home, 3 times a week starting January 7th
  • Create hand-drawn/digital illustrations according to design briefs and guidelines for our event activities
  • Assist the Artistic Director and the Senior Designer

Required Qualifications:

  • Ability to meet deadlines and work well under pressure
  • Proficiency in Adobe Suite – Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, etc
  • Have good artistic sense and be highly creative
  • Enthusiastic personality
  • Willingness to learn

We are seeking a volunteer who has experience in video editing who can help in the organization, editing, and processing of video files. Ability to draw and create graphic animations are a plus.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Flexibility of working from home, 3 times a week starting January 7th
  • Create and edit high-quality videos for our video programming
  • Assist the Artistic Director and the Senior Designer

Required Qualifications:

  • Ability to meet deadlines and work well under pressure
  • Proficiency in Adobe Suite – Premiere, After Effects, etc
  • Ability to create high quality video animations and transitions
  • Have good artistic sense and be highly creative
  • Enthusiastic personality
  • Willingness to learn

Activity Leader Volunteers are needed to introduce, lead, and assist students in these workshop activities during the months of January – February. The crafts involve the symbolic firecracker, a significant and traditional part of the Lunar New Year celebration with a special intention this year to set new resolutions and start the Year of the Ox with a bang!

Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Remote position, 2 – 4 days per week starting Jan 18th – Feb 26th
  • Familiarize with the history and activity lesson plans in advance
  • Attend the training and rehearsal
  • Lead the live virtual craft sessions involving 2 – 3 elementary school classes per session

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience working with school-aged children in arts-related activities is a plus
  • Ability to lead craft activity with large groups while following scheduled lesson plan
  • Enjoy working with and telling stories to children
  • Passion for arts and crafts
  • Enthusiastic personality
  • Willingness to learn
  • Leadership skills, patience, and initiative
