TAIWANfest is an annual event celebrating arts and culture that has grown to become one of the largest bilingual festivals in Canada. 2024 TAIWANfest: Becoming Me explores how language connects us to our past and future in a dialogue with Spain. Are you passionate about cultural events and looking to make a meaningful impact in the community? 2024 TAIWANfest is seeking enthusiastic volunteers to join our team in various capacities. This is a great opportunity to gain valuable experience, meet new people, and contribute to a vibrant cultural celebration. Check out the positions below and find the one that’s right for you!

Volunteer Positions

As a Volunteer Graphic Designer, you’ll work closely with our Artistic Director and Design Team to create visually stunning materials for the festival. This is a fantastic opportunity for students or individuals passionate about graphic design and illustration to build their portfolio and contribute to a meaningful cultural event.

Tasks & Responsibilities:

  • Design and produce graphics for print and digital media, including posters, social media posts, and website elements.
  • Collaborate with the Design Team to develop cohesive visual branding for TAIWANfest.
  • Illustrate original artwork that reflects the themes and cultural elements of TAIWANFest.
  • Ensure all designs are visually appealing, on-brand, and effectively communicate the project’s message.
  • Communicate efficiently with Artistic Director and content planners to adjust designs upon feedback.

As a Volunteer Video Producer, you’ll work closely with our Artistic Director and Design Team to film, edit, and produce engaging video content for the festival. This is a fantastic opportunity for students or individuals passionate about videography and video editing to build their portfolio and contribute to a meaningful cultural event.
 
Tasks & Responsibilities:
  • Capture high-quality video footage of TAIWANfest events and activities.
  • Plan, set up, and operate camera equipment during shoots.
  • Ensure proper lighting and sound recording for each shoot.
  • Edit video footage to create compelling final products, including cutting and splicing clips, adding transitions, effects, sound, and music.
  • Collaborate with the Artistic Director to understand the vision and goals for each video project.
  • Maintain and organize video equipment and files.

Qualifications:

  • Experience with video recording equipment and techniques.
  • Proficiency in video editing software such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or similar.
  • Strong attention to detail and an eye for capturing and editing engaging visuals.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to manage time effectively and handle multiple projects simultaneously.

1. Volunteer Coordinator

As a Volunteer Coordinator, you will play a crucial role in organizing and managing our volunteer team. Responsibilities include working with the staff to train and schedule volunteers, ensuring smooth operations throughout the festival. Strong organizational and communication skills are essential.

2. English-Chinese Translator

Help bridge language barriers as an English-Chinese Translator. Your role will involve translating written event materials, assisting with bilingual communication, and ensuring that our diverse audience can fully enjoy the festival. Fluency in both English and Chinese is required.

3. Festival Ambassador

Be the face of TAIWANfest as a Festival Ambassador. Greet and assist attendees, provide information about the festival, and help create a welcoming and enjoyable experience for all visitors. Festival Ambassadors will also help to lead other volunteers. This position is perfect for outgoing individuals with excellent interpersonal skills.

4. Programs Emcee

Bring energy and excitement to the stage as a Programs Emcee. You will introduce performances, engage with the audience, and ensure that the program runs smoothly. Strong public speaking skills and a charismatic personality are key for this role.

5. Stage Manager

Be the behind-the-scenes maestro as a Stage Manager, ensuring seamless performances by coordinating schedules, cues, and logistics backstage at the festival! Stage Managers will be in charge of communicating with the tech team, performers, and staff.
